Soy sauce has five main ingredients; soybeans, wheat, Aspergillus(culturing mold) or another fermenting agent, water, and salt. Soybeans are the main ingredient, even their name come from their role in soy sauce! Wheat also has an important role, because its proteins mix with the ones of soybeans in fermentation. The carbohydrates in wheat give soy sauce its smell and sweetness.
